With a minimal budget of 40,000 dollars Bradley Rust Gray succeeded in making an extremely appealing and colourful film, abounding in small details.
After the screening the director chatted with the spectators, among others explaining that the script for The Exploding Girl was written in an extremely short time, as he was working on another project at the moment. He tackled this pic casually, it being spurred by a bad day on the shoot. In his films, Bradley Rust Gray spotlights the lives of young people, and finds the experience of first love, all this mystery and uncertainty, utterly compelling. He usually works with his wife Kim Yong So – the producer of The Exploding Girl. Rust Gray persists in making independent films, being certain that despite a select audience their quality is much better compared with the commercial production.
