Paradise TV
Who would have thought that the only Slovenian feature film at this year’s LIFFe was a documentary about a Japanese pornography TV-channel, Paradise TV, made by Dražen Štader and his crew. The ministry would not grant the funds for the project, as it supposedly had neither market nor promotional potential, and nobody believed that such absurdities actually do happen. Fortunately, Štader met producer Leon Krpič, who believed in the project and was willing to sponsor it.
Paradise TV is a film for people with an open of mind and propensity for general lewdness (sukebe!). Japanese laws on nudity in the media govern only the shots of the genitals, and on the Paradise TV during the shooting they are shrewdly covered by a rice spatula. What an average Slovenian will find utterly absurd and unacceptable, a Japanese person will see as only one of the ways how to satisfy himself and his partner as well as the TV viewers.
