Broken Embraces

All Pedro Almodovar’s admirers simply must see Broken Embraces, a film with which the director will indubitably win over some new enthusiasts. The tragicomical, poetic masterpiece is Almodovar’s expressive declaration of love for film and filmmaking. Actress Blanca Portillo talked about the shooting with the numerous spectators, and enchanted us with her warmth, modesty, sincerity and overwhelming charisma. She was cast in the role of Judit which was written especially for her. This was an honour as well as an immense responsibility. The experienced Portillo, who has been working in film, theatre (in Madrid she among others worked with Slovenian Tomaž Pandur as the lead in his Barocco), and has tried her hand at theatre directing, has performed the task exceptionally. This is probably also due to her abiding by the principle that creating a role is an act of love and unconditional trust in the director.
